‘These mercenaries, murderers, and terrorists do not rest,’ Diosdado Cabello warned.
On Thursday, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello revealed that Venezuela’s far-right opposition was involved in planning “Operation Aurora,” which had as its central objective the carrying out of assaults on military units in Bolivar state.

In 2019, Operation Aurora was linked to an assault carried out on a military unit in Bolivar, whose perpetrators fled to Colombia. Cabello presented a video of a detainee explaining this operation’s plan. The detainee recounts how his group escaped through the Brazilian jungle and was extracted by a helicopter of the Brazilian Armed Forces.
This detainee, who returned to Venezuela in December 2024, was contacted to place explosives in another Venezuelan military facility. Venezuelan authorities, however, arrested Damian Rojas and other individuals involved.
Bolivarian authorities have been monitoring the statements of spokespersons for these terrorist groups on social media. One of them mentioned that U.S. mercenary Mathew Van Dyke and Erik Prince, with funding from Colombian drug trafficking and USAID, were participating in covert operations against Venezuela. Cabello displayed a structure showing political operators who recruit mercenaries for “Operation Gold.”
In audios revealed by Cabello, right-wing spokespersons provide details about the operation’s preparations, including the assembly of an explosive device. As part of an operation financed by high-ranking U.S. officials, the detained terrorists planned to activate explosives at various points in the country and to kidnap Judge Maikel Moreno, former president of the Supreme Justice Court.
“These mercenaries, murderers, and terrorists do not rest,” Cabello said, and revealed that Maria Corina Machado is linked to terrorist plans that were intended to be carried out at military facilities in the states of Guarico and Barinas.
“Now that so many people are being deported, send us those criminals who have outstanding accounts with justice so they can be tried,” Cabello said, addressing U.S. authorities and requesting the extradition of far-right activists who have caused “great harm to the Bolivarian nation.”
“The opposition has not expanded its ranks. They are the same people with the same faces. They are the same deserters and mercenaries who recycle themselves over and over because they have no one else. They are the same operators of violence,” Cabello stressed.
At the appropriate time, Venezuela had warned about the presence of Venezuelan far-right terrorists in several Latin American countries, including Brazil, where those fugitives sought refuge during Jair Bolsonaro’s administration. Despite these warnings, none of those governments took any action.
“Terrorism will have no place in Venezuela,” Cabello stated, confirming that all individuals involved in Operation Aurora have already been arrested.
